Announcements for the 2026 Fall Semester
The Blog
As the 2026 fall semester begins, we want to launch an official STET blog. This blog aims to educate and inform students about the editing and publishing industry and to provide tips for navigating the editing and publishing major at BYU. Blog posts will appear weekly on Mondays so that you can start your week learning something new! These posts will focus on several topics: publishing facts and histories, information about editorial style guides, real-world advice from editing and publishing students, day in the life snapshots, insider looks into different genres of editing, and much more.
Additionally, if you are an editing and publishing major (or just enjoy writing), we encourage you to submit your own blog post! Anything related to the topics listed above is encouraged. This could be your chance to get published on a college blog (which looks great on résumés and personal portfolios). Simply fill out the link listed in the header of our blog page to begin.
Our New Presidency
Along with the edition of this blog, STET is undergoing some exciting new changes! First, we have a brand new presidency. Our president, Chantelle, is a senior majoring in editing and publishing with minors in music, creative writing, and French. She also loves to discuss and learn new things about linguistics.
Secondly, our vice president, Emily, is a junior in the editing and publishing major with a minor in business. She loves reading every genre and writing fantasy and literary fiction. She also has a bookstagram (@emilykatherynsbooks) that features great reading recommendations!
Next, our webmaster, Cadence, is a junior majoring in editing and publishing with a minor in family history. She enjoys reading fantasy books and working as a managing editor for Leading Edge. She also works as a developmental and substantive editor for J. W. Stevens, an author at JPT Press.
Finally, our secretary, Gillian, is a junior in the editing and publishing program with a minor in business. She's also an intern at Faculty Publishing Service and a designer for the Marriot Student Review.
Our presidency members have all participated in many of the editing and publishing internships and extracurricular activities offered on and off campus, so we can point you in the right direction as you look for internships, student journals, and other opportunities.
Semester Activities
The last big change we are making to STET is our activities schedule. STET will feature four main activities each semester. These activities will take place on the second Thursday of every month at 7:00 p.m. This semester, our activities will include the following:
- September 10: STET Job and Journal Fair
- October 8: Editor’s Panel: Our Professional Journey
- November 12: Build Your Professional Portfolio Workshop
- December 10: Editing & Linguistics Jeopardy Night
More details about locations will become available on our website’s calendar. Come enjoy refreshments, mingle with fellow editors, and build your professional network.
To create a more interactive community among our STET members, we will also host study parties every Thursday that we do not have a main activity planned. Check the STET calendar for information about specific times and places for these hangouts. The objective of these activities is to build connections, support one another, and learn from each other while getting our homework done. Plus, sweet treats will be provided!
We are excited to get to know you more and help you navigate the editing and publishing major. We also welcome all students interested in the publishing industry, including writers, linguists, and avid readers. See you this semester!
